Warts or other skin growths can be removed in different ways - for example, to destroy them by electrocoagulation or cryodestruction, or "peel off" with a laser. The latter method is considered the safest and most effective: the laser beam plays the role of both a surgical instrument and an antiseptic, so the wound after wart removal heals faster.
But is it possible that the healing will have problems? And after what period of time should the wound heal after removal? How to protect yourself from possible unpleasant consequences?
How long does the wound heal after wart removal?
Modern methods of wart removal are considered minimally invasive - that is, they cause virtually no damage to healthy skin. However, both laser wart removal and cryodestruction always leave a small wound that heals in several stages.
- The first stage lasts about a week and is characterized by the formation of a dark crust on the wound (do not touch or damage it!). This crust serves as a kind of protection, preventing the entry of infection into the wound and promoting adequate growth of new tissue in place of the former wart.
- The second stage can be observed from about the second week of healing, and lasts about 4-7 days: the crust falls off, exposing the renewed pinkish skin. The area where the wart was removed should still not be touched, scratched, soaked, or even exposed to sunlight.
- The third stage represents the formation of full healthy skin. Full tightening of the wound after the removal of the wart is detected after about 3-4 weeks. After this time, the skin acquires a natural color, the removal site is smoothed.
After about three months, there is an almost imperceptible rounded mark in the wound area after wart removal. There should be no scars, areas of darkening. In such a case, we can talk about high-quality healing of the wound. [1]
Why doesn't the wound heal after wart removal?
Usually, the wound after removing a wart with laser or nitrogen will heal in a few weeks. As we have already said, this healing process has a certain sequence, and the tissues are restored in stages. Visible healing can be observed after the scab - a dry superficial crust.
It is possible that if the laser beam or nitrogen penetrates too long or too deeply, the wound will heal more slowly after removal. Prevents rapid healing is also a violation of the rules of post-procedural care for the area of tissue damage. An important role is also played by individual characteristics of the body - for example, a person may have a weakened immune defense, there may be foci of chronic infection, etc.
Any of the above factors can provoke a delay in wound healing. Moreover, complications may develop:
- redness, swelling of the wound, suppuration and pain;
- formation of a rough scar, scarring or unaesthetic mark after wart removal;
- fever, general weakness and malaise;
- formation of a hyperpigmented area of skin.
Wound festered after wart removal: what to do?
After removing a wart, it is important to provide proper care for the traumatized area, as there is a risk of infectious complications, which is manifested by suppuration, swelling of tissues, pain. If suppuration is detected, the best solution is to contact the doctor who performed the removal. In most situations, the doctor will simply prescribe the use of certain external antiseptics, in conjunction with general tonic agents (for example, with vitamin therapy). [2]
For the fastest healing of the wound needs constant ventilation, so tape it, lubricate it with irritating ointments or creams is strictly prohibited, as well as tear off the formed crust (scab).
If suppuration is already present, the crust will still have to be removed. But this should only be done by a doctor, after preliminary soaking in a solution of furacilin or hydrogen peroxide. After softening the scab, it is carefully lifted with tweezers by the peeled edge and removed - gradually, without excessive effort, if necessary cutting with a sterile instrument. After the procedure, the doctor will explain the further subtleties of treatment of the wound from the removal of the wart: now it will have to lubricate it for five days with the drug Levomekol, and then - coloring liquid Fukorcin. Other appointments are also possible - at the discretion of the attending doctor. [3]
How to treat the wound after wart removal?
Disinfectant properties are characterized by many medicinal solutions - for example, it can be a solution of diamond green ("green"), iodine or potassium permanganate. After scab removal, the doctor may recommend lubrication of the wound after removal of warts 1% hydrocortisone ointment: it is applied twice a day to the tightening skin surface. However, such an appointment is not carried out for everyone and only in exceptional cases.
During tissue repair, it is recommended to increase the regenerative ability of the skin, improve local immunity. For these purposes, vitamins A and E are excellent. Useful substances that enter the body, maximally contribute to the fastest tissue regeneration.
Avoid complications can be avoided if you strictly comply with all medical appointments, carefully care for the wound after removal of the wart. [4]
How to care for the wound after wart removal with laser and nitrogen?
Features of wound care after wart removal by laser can be described in the form of the following recommendations:
- The removal site should be shielded from sunlight, so sunbathing and visiting a tanning salon for 1-2 months after the procedure is not recommended.
- You should avoid any additional trauma and injuries in the area of the wart removal procedure. Any bruises, bruises, bruises, abrasions always negatively affect the healing process.
- After removing a wart in the facial area, it is important not to cover the affected area with makeup products (foundation, powder, etc.). It is optimal to leave the affected area alone until it has completely healed.
- Damaged tissue is undesirable to wet for 14-20 days after removal of the wart. Moisture will prevent the formation of crusts, creating favorable conditions for maceration - loosening and swelling of tissues, which, in turn, may cause suppuration. It is optimal to start washing the wart area after complete tissue regeneration.
- Do not overcool or overheat the skin in the area of wart removal - at least for 2-3 weeks. The result of strong temperature changes can be a slow healing of the wound, the formation of hyperpigmentation or rough marks from the procedure.
- If the doctor has prescribed treatment of the wart removal site with any drugs, then this treatment should be carried out without fail to prevent the development of complications.
Another common way to remove warts is cryodestruction, or removal with nitrogen. [5] After this procedure, it is recommended to adhere to the following rules of wound care:
- Some time after exposure to liquid nitrogen, a bubble forms in the area of the wart and swelling is detected. Such a bubble should not be opened, even if it is not blood but blood inside. If the bubble is opened, the natural process of wound healing will be disrupted.
- It is allowed to put a special pharmacy aseptic dressing on the wound after removal of the wart, as well as treatment with swabs with 2% salicylic alcohol or potassium permanganate solution. Treatment is repeated systematically until the appearance of peeling on the damaged skin area. This may occur after about a week.
No other additional care measures are required. It is important to observe the rules of hygiene, do not damage or wet the affected area: the wound after removal of the wart should heal on its own.
